I am a big supporter of OpenSource, which means "free" in the sense of "available for use by others in creating further works", rather than, necessarily, "free" in cost terms.
I believe creators should be rewarded for, and have rights over their creations, but that they should in control. The creator should be free to choose the form of that reward, As a minimum default they should be attributed as the creator, unless they explitly contribute content as Public Domain.
I am delighted when my creations form a "block" in someone else"s "building".
I include the following terms to address issues that are arising with Commercial use of digital content that is so far from the creators intention.
I hope such a statement will address such any such use of my creative content.
Master Terms for the re-use of MikeTheBee"s creations
"Content" includes Digital Text, Images, Audio, on any Public Digital Storage Space attributed under the brand "MikeTheBee". All my content is intended to be licensed under the terms Creative Commons BY:NC License unless a different license is specifically attached to the content. Details of the license can be found at the Creative Commons Site. Attribution should be by reference MikeTheBee or MikeTheBee.com, and include http://mikethebee.com , or a link to the original source, in the article credits or immediately adjacent to the 'Content. To clarify my expections from using this license:
I intend that this permits the use of my creative IP for any non-commercial purposes without prior consent, but does require the source to be attributed to MikeTheBee.
My intent in requiring prior-consent for Commercial use is to ensure I am aware of the use or re-use, in whole or part, and the context in which it is used. I do not think of any group, club and community sites as Commercial, even if the site is ad-supported.
I do think of printed publications, newspapers, and magazines as commercial, and include derivative works that include any of my 'Content', such as reports, survey, statistics and the like.
By the use of 'Content' in this way the user undertakes to make 'best efforts' to create a contractual agreement with me prior to any 're-use'. The user also undertakes to cover all reasonable costs incurred by me in creating such a contract, whether prior to, or after the use has occurred.
